Ectopic Pregnancy Symptoms to Watch Out for
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg implants itself on the outside, instead of on the inside, of the uterus, most times the implantation will occur in the fallopian tubes. Surprisingly, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, ectopic pregnancies occur in 1 out of every 50 pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancy symptoms are often difficult to diagnose because they are so similar to the symptoms of pregnancy. These similar symptoms could include a missed period, nausea, tender breasts, and fatigue along with the more common ectopic pregnancy symptoms outlined below:
Bleeding
Ectopic pregnancy symptoms include bleeding that can range from heavy bleeding to light spotting; blood loss is a very common ectopic pregnancy symptom, especially if you have already taken a positive pregnancy test or if the bleeding begins at a time that is different from your usual period date.
Abdominal Discomfort
A prime ectopic pregnancy symptom is sharp abdominal pain that can vary in intensity and is almost always present when a woman is having an ectopic pregnancy. Most often this pain will occur in your lower abdominal or pelvic area.
Ruptured Fallopian Tube
Another of the ectopic pregnancy symptoms is the rupturing of a fallopian tube. The internal bleeding that results from this rupture will put pressure on your diaphragm, along with the nerves around it which could cause uncomfortable pain in your neck and shoulders.
Dizziness
More ectopic pregnancy symptoms include fainting, weakness, low blood pressure, and dizziness that are a result of blood loss.
Things to Consider
If you are experiencing any of these ectopic pregnancy symptoms above you will want to talk with your doctor immediately because leaving an ectopic pregnancy untreated can be life threatening and the quicker it is treated, the smaller the chances that complications will occur.
