Question: Asked this question earlier but didn’t get any responses. I am measuring a week behind. Reason to worry?
I went in for my routine prenatal appointment. I am 31 weeks and 1 day today. I mentioned the fact that I don’t look 31 weeks (at least in my eyes). My doctor pressed down on my stomach and said I was measuring kind of small, but he wasn’t worried about it. He decided to go ahead and do a quick ultrasound. He found the heartbeat and looked at everything else which appeared to be fine, Again, he said I was measuring kind of small but that was okay. He showed us the calculations on the screen and it showed me measuring one week behind (30 weeks and 1 day). He said the baby weighed almost 3.5 lbs. He said we would do a follow-up ultrasound at my next appointment to keep an eye on the growth. BUT HE DIDN’T SEEM CONCERNED AT ALL.

What really scared me is when he asked if the doctor who performed my myomectomy (fibroid removal) mentioned anything about a unicornuate … and another term he used … uterus. I said no. He said he couldn’t see the right side of my uterus. He’s never mentioned that before. Background: I got a second opinion and had a fibroid removed in March 2009. Then I went back to my current doctor once I found out I was pregnant in May 2009. He alo asked if he’d ever ordered an HSG for me and I said yes. I had one done when I started going to him three years or so ago. He said, “okay, well that would’ve told me if there were anything abnormal about your uterus.”

I’ve noticed my baby hangs out on the left side most of the time. As of the past month he’s started moving to the right side for a little bit, and then he’ll return to the left side. Should I be concerned??? We saw an ultrasound picture today and the baby’s forehead looks much larger than it did at the 19 week and 4 day ultrasound. His nose also seemed to be closer down to his lips. Out of all the ultrasounds I’ve had everything has been normal. I do remember having brown discharge at 8 and 9 weeks.

It is fine to measure up to two weeks behind or two weeks ahead without reason for concern. My baby is almost always on the right side..I mentioned this to my OB and she said that is fine..but that it is normal for babies to prefer the left side (which you mentioned yours is).
